The Siren

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

The Siren is a national, online literary journal based out of the University of Kansas, composed entirely of student staff, submissions and content. We welcome submissions of poetry, fiction, nonfiction and scripts for plays  by undergraduate and graduate writers from universities across the United States. We encourage a wide variety of literary work, and we're excited by language that speaks to the web of experiences, ideas and projects that connect our geographically vast writing community.

We have two reading periods throughout the year. This year our spring 2014 reading period will be open February 15th through March 30th. Issues are published biannually. The timeline of our review process varies, but please allow around three months for a response to your work.

Simultaneous submissions are allowed, however please inform us as soon as possible if your work is accepted elsewhere. Previously published work will not be considered. Additionally, please limit yourself to one submission per reading period, per genre.

In addition to these submissions, we're also interested in what's going on in your neck of the literary woods. If you'd like to contribute additional content to our website - such as reviews of published contemporary writing, interviews with authors in your area, or other reports on the state of your local writing community - let us know! Please send us a query (before writing an article), detailing the book/event/author/etc. that you'd like to write about, and we'll let you know if we're interested in publishing your work. Please send all queries to sirenjournal@gmail.com, with "ARTICLE QUERY" in the subject line.

Thank you for submitting to The Siren, and we look forward to reading your work!
